Essential skill and benefits…

SAILING is a professional sport. Usually you can start this sport at the age of 7 with the Optimist category which is a small dinghy .Then after the age of 15 you can move up to a Laser a 470 and many other categories. Small children learn to control a sailing boat by learning all necessary skills. When racing the above skills need to be refined and additional skills and techniques learned, such as the application of the "racing rules of sailing”, boat handling skills when starting and when rounding marks, and knowledge of tactics and strategy.

With some known facts about sailing and the fun that comes with such recreational and sport activity, there are actually other benefits, aside from the thrill and adventure experience, one could get out of such undertaking. These benefits may give some ego boost and sense of fulfilment.

Operating a sailing boat requires great focus on a lot of things during the activity. You get to operate the vital controls that keep it running smoothly. More so and especially during competitions such as racing, you get that adrenalin rush that brings out the best in you. Balancing the boat is one way of stabilizing it during a sail and this is commonly done by using a trapeze. In addition, one has to pull some systems of ropes to control the sail. All in all, these activities alone can exercise a lot of your leg muscles, upper body muscles and balancing muscles. To top it all, think about the amount of calories that are burned out of those activities. It’s like a fitness regimen in a sense. Second, because sailing involves some form of movement coordination and keen visual observation, you can develop your quick thinking skill as you get to respond to a myriad of situations as you happen to observe or anticipate. For example, if you are able to determine the wind direction via your equipment, then you will have to act accordingly in order to take the full advantage of the wind. During races or even just friendly sailing club competitions, you get to observe what the competing boats are doing and you will then decide your course of action towards finishing first on the finish line. These combined may enhance your thinking skills even under intense physical stress.

Those shared challenges, and the variability of the weather and sea can make sailing and racing a fascinating and rewarding recreational sport: physically, mentally, and in terms of personal relationships with other crew member, competitors, and organizers. Generally sailing ... is about adventure, exploration, teamwork and fun!!
